I don’t have too much to say on this one. It was pretty meh. I understood what they were going for and I don’t disagree with some of the arguments made in the film regarding male privilege and rape culture, however, these themes and other agendas pushed seemed a little bit forced? Like when a TV show wants to incorporate current events and it comes off cheesy. It wasn’t terrible it just wasn’t anything I would watch again. Its a nice little fun time with some friends though, you’ll definitely get a couple little jump scares. The twist at the end was pretty intriguing actually. I’m not sure I would classify this as a black Christmas film myself, but I can appreciate they changed it up in this remake and did something fresh.
I have been highly anticipating this one for quite some time and I must say I was not disappointed. Not a perfect movie. There are some pacing issues (or so I think so) and the new design took a moment to get used to lol. The new Andy played by Gabriel Bateman was FANTASTIC and Aubrey Plaza was great in the role even if I couldn’t stop seeing April from Parks and Recreation. It’s hard for me to call it a remake because it literally has only a handful of connections to the original in terms of story and that point alone makes me like it alot. It really took the story somewhere new in the franchise and I actually enjoyed the new take on the motivations for Chuck. Was not expecting to feel sorry for the little devil lol. I highly recommend. It’s not an amazing movie, but it definitely delivers a fun ride. I enjoyed it alot and highly recommend! I actually would welcome a sequel.
